Our Story
Who We Are
The Learning Centre for Quality Management (LCQM) is a regional Centre of Excellence based within the School of Global and Public Health at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. We are dedicated to strengthening learning within health systems to improve access to quality health services.
Our work brings together research, knowledge management, and capacity building to generate evidence, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen the capabilities of individuals and institutions. By fostering continuous learning and innovation, we help health systems adapt, improve, and deliver better outcomes for the populations they serve.
01 · University-based
Research rigour and long-term institutional continuity that outlives any single project.
02 · Government-embedded
Working within health systems — not alongside them — for improvements that last.
03 · Regionally influential
Sharing knowledge, tools, and lessons across Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa.
Background & Strategic Mandate
LCQM was established in response to the growing need for systematic quality improvement in healthcare delivery across Malawi and the broader Southern African region. Our work addresses critical gaps in healthcare quality management capacity and infrastructure.
Our strategic mandate is delivered through three core pillars: Research, Knowledge Management, and Capacity Building. Through these pillars, we generate evidence that informs policy and practice, capture and share knowledge from implementation and improvement initiatives, and strengthen the competencies of health professionals and institutions.
We are committed to ensuring that our interventions are contextually appropriate, evidence-based, and sustainable, with a particular focus on low-bandwidth environments and resource-limited settings.
